How to show employees
that Stavario will help them
When the deadlines are burning, they work calmly from morning until evening. They must be skilled, quick and able to cope even in a situation that is not always ideal. They have a lot of work to do, because orders are pouring in during the season and there is no time to rest. And suddenly, as a business owner, you throw in a pitchfork and tell your people to use Stavario from now on. That you need attendance details automatically. And they don't like it very much.
Marcel Růžička works as a foreman in the construction company Stav-idea. He orders material, communicates with workers, works with projects. He alternately works on the construction site and on the computer.
They introduced Stavario in their company about three years ago. „Before the mobile app, we worked classically on a paper notebook system. In them, we recorded arrival in the morning and departure in the afternoon. Breaks for lunch and snacks were taken automatically," Marcel describes.
Do you recognize it? Such a system is as old as the brick itself and common in many buildings. But it's not very practical:
- the notebook is easily lost,
- everyone can basically write whatever they want in it,
- then flipping the data into tables with wages, holidays and other records is probably worse than if you forget the waterproofing coating in the bathroom and go straight to the tiling.
„I have to say that the system suited us. We felt freer with the other guys, that's for sure" Marcel describes.
However, manually recording attendance in notebooks is not ideal for you. The notebook system adds a lot of work to you and prevents you from modernizing, digitizing and making your construction company more efficient. A good solution is offered by Stavario with a simple app for employees and a detailed web interface for company management. It's a great tool for you, now all that's left is a "little thing" - to introduce it to people from the company, to inform them that it will be their daily bread again and not cause a riot.
„At first, the new system seemed to us a bit like clock paper punch system in a factory. But the boss showed us Stavario in detail and explained the reasons why he wants to use it in the company. He showed us how it benefits him and how it will help us," Marcel describes.
You should do the same. Work with it and:
- Explain what Stavario is and how you discovered it. Feel free to say that the owner of another construction company you know and his colleagues have good experience with the tool and recommended it to you.
- Show how Stavario benefits your people. We will describe them in more detail below in the article.
- Explain how Stavario benefits your business as a whole. You will get accurate data for wages, you will have more time to solve individual projects, find orders and take care of clients and communicate with your employees. It will no longer happen that an angry investor arrives at the construction site and delays the workers.
- Briefly describe to the employees what their work with Stavario will look like. Ideally, show it directly on a mobile phone or tablet.
- Leave room for questions. Find out what you don't know later from our colleague Veronika at user support and fill in the information for the employees. This will make them feel like your teammates and lessen negative impressions.
Don't let rumors spread in your business. This will only promote a negative perception of the situation and your people will go into the presentation meeting with an opinion about it and you won't change it.
You can find out exactly how attendance works in the video
The worker logs in, enters his arrival, selects the building he will be working on, and takes a picture. Appka welcomes him to work and that's it. This video is perfect for reassuring your people that Stavario is not rocket science.
Technical requirements of the app: You need a smartphone or tablet
While you will work mainly in the Stavaria web interface, your employees need a smartphone or tablet to log in to work.
„Builders often mention that their employees don't have smart phones and can't start using push-button apps. But we know that currently about 6 thousand people use Stavario and 29% of them have Apple devices and 71% of users are on Android. So workers own smartphones," describes the founder of Stavario, Josef Beneš, who spent a large part of his professional life among construction workers.
That is why it is ideal for you to find out the situation in your company and to make an agreement with the people who need a smartphone and buy them a business mobile phone. On one construction site, all workers can easily borrow it, who log in one by one and enter their arrival. Each of them has its own login name and PIN. Stavario works just as well on a tablet. The latter is more pleasant especially for older employees who have difficulty seeing the mobile phone, or the controls on the mobile phone screen are too sensitive for them.
„Here, it works that way: someone has their own mobile phone, someone's boss bought a business phone. Stavario normally uses a personal phone, but anyone who had an old push-button phone received a more modern mobile phone from the company. It works fine. I have Stavario on my mobile and it doesn't bother me in any way. It's just another app," describes Marcel, an employee of the construction company.
What benefits does Stavario have for your employees?
Stavario makes your employees more transparent, for example, overtime, makes it easier to enter vacation or doctor's leave, and helps them when someone unfairly accuses them of losing a company drill or breaking a mixer. That's why it's important that you present the benefits to people in a concise and clear manner.
- Photos as proof. You can upload photos to Stavaria for each construction log. Thanks to this, the employee can easily document exactly what he did and what the status of the work is. “When the boss asks what I've been doing, I simply show him the photos and he's clear. The photos are proof of my work," explains Marcel.
- The work depends on the material, not on the worker. When the employee sees that the material will not be enough, he enters a purchase request in Stavario. The superior knows about it immediately and takes care of it. If the delivery gets stuck on something, the worker is out of obligation - he noticed the running out of material, informed the management and is now waiting for the delivery. "When the foreman is angry about why he is not working hard, the worker responds: 'Mister foreman, I made a request two days ago and you didn't deliver anything.' That way they can easily justify why the work is costing," explains Marcel.
- Notification of the doctor up to 14 days in advance. Doctor information is beneficial for both business owners and employees. They simply enter a visit to the doctor in the app, you confirm it and there is no unpleasant surprise that the worker is not at the construction site in the morning. You all know what's going on.
- Overtimes are sorted. Sometimes the boss needs the employees to stay longer on the construction site - perhaps because of a burning deadline or approaching nasty weather that will interrupt the work. The overtime hours will then not be lost anywhere. The payroll accountant can see them in Stavario, and the employees' payroll will not be affected by it.
- No more arguments about tools. It also works in the app tool rental system. The employee clicks on a loan, picks up the tool from the warehouse or receives it from a colleague. And when he returns the tool, he enters the information into the app. It is clear who has the drill and the workers have leverage so that someone does not blame the loss of the tool on them. "It's also good that in the app I can see where the drill I need is. So I don't needlessly go to the warehouse or call anywhere, because I know that the tools I need are used by guys on another construction site," says Marcel.
